Sam Dixon, a running back transfer from Ohio State, was arrested Saturday, according to jail records. Dixon has also been suspended from the Gamecocks football team.
Dixon’s arrest was first reported by postandcourier.com.
Dixon was charged with two counts of breaking into auto/tanks where fuel stored, two counts of criminal conspiracy and a single charge of grand larceny (greater than $2,000, less than $10,000), jail records show.
No bond has been set for Dixon, who is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, according to jail records. Following a bond hearing, Dixon is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 28, Richland County judicial records show. That’s a week before the Gamecocks are scheduled to play their season-opening game on Sept. 5 against Kent State.
“We are aware of the situation and per Athletic Department policy, he is suspended indefinitely,” a spokesman for the USC football team told The State on Sunday.
When a Gamecocks student-athlete is arrested, it typically means the player is suspended from team activities until their case is resolved or until cleared to return by the coaching staff.

Dixon was one of three transfer running backs the Gamecocks signed for the 2026 season. He had 10 carries for 62 yards and a touchdown in two years at Ohio State. Dixon was a three-star prospect as a high school recruit in Ohio.
The 5-foot-10, 212-pound Dixon is listed as a redshirt sophomore and was scheduled to have three years of eligibility remaining, prior to his arrest. He’s a sports media major, according to USC’s website.
Dixon is listed as Williams-Dixon in jail records. When he was arrested, 19-year-old Elijah Williams-Dixon also was arrested on the same charges, jail records show.
