Officers made a grisly discovery Wednesday on a South Carolina property when human remains were found inside an old vehicle, according to the Florence Police Department.

Officers responded to reports of a foul odor on a Sewanee Avenue property, police said in a news release. That’s in a part of Florence that’s not far from the junction of I-20 and I-95.
The bad smell was reported to police by the homeowner, according to the release.
On the propert was a vehicle that had been sitting unused for some time, police said. Inside the vehicle a dead person was located, according to the release.
There was no word about how long the body had been inside the vehicle, and the state of decomposition. The Florence County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the person.

Police said there were no signs of foul play, but they are working with the coroner’s office to complete a thorough investigation. That includes an autopsy to determine the cause of death, according to the release.
