Two people killed and two more injured in late night crash, SC cops say

Two people were killed late Saturday night in the first deadly crash of 2026 in Bamberg County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Two more people were injured in the two-vehicle collision that happened at about 11:20 p.m., said Sgt. Tyler Tidwell.

A Jeep Wrangler was driving south on S.C. 61, while a Chevrolet Silverado was heading west on Farrells Road, according to Tidwell. At the intersection the vehicles crashed with both overturning after being propelled off opposite sides of the road, Tidwell said.

Both a passenger in the Jeep and the Chevy driver died, according to Tidwell.

The Bamberg County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the victims who died.

The Jeep driver was injured and airlifted to a hospital in Charleston, Tidwell said. A passenger in the Chevy suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to Tidwell.

Further information about the surviving victims’ conditions was not available.

There was no word if anyone involved in the crash was wearing a seatbelt.

Information about what caused the vehicles to collide was not available. Tidwell did not say if the Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.

Through July 19, at least 464 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. A minimum of 914 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.

At least two people have died in Bamberg County crashes this year, and seven people died in wrecks there in 2025, according to DPS data.
