A new spot for cool, sweet treats is coming to a burgeoning shopping center near northeast Columbia.

Ice cream shop Cold Stone Creamery and smoothie spot Planet Smoothie will open a joint storefront at the Pontiac Towne Center retail development at 10508 Two Notch Road in Elgin. The Pontiac Towne Center is anchored by a Food Lion supermarket and has a number of other businesses either open or on the way.
Signage for Cold Stone Creamery and Planet Smoothie has gone up on the building at Pontiac Towne Center. An opening date for the sweet shop has not been publicly announced.
Cold Stone Creamery has more than 1,100 locations across the U.S., per data website ScrapeHero, and is known for its numerous flavors of ice cream with a variety of toppings and mixes, as well as milkshakes and more. Planet Smoothie, meanwhile, is known for its fresh fruit smoothies, acai bowls and other offerings.

Pontiac Towne Center is a growing development in the Elgin area. Aside from the aforementioned Food Lion that opened earlier this year, the shopping center has a number of spaces set to be developed for more businesses. Among others, there is a Subway restaurant planned for the development, as well as an Eggs Up Grill restaurant.
Also, Pontiac Towne Center recently welcomed a new Tokyo Grill restaurant, and a new Bowers Ace Hardware, which had a grand opening on June 13.
The shopping center is in a bustling area at the corner of Two Notch and Spears Creek Church roads. More than 24,000 cars per day traverse that section of Two Notch Road, according state Department of Transportation data, with more than 15,800 cars per day traveling down Spears Creek Church Road nearby.
