There is now an opportunity for community members to pay their respects to Jillian Olson, the Lexington County master deputy who died during an underwater training Thursday.

Her colleagues at the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department parked Olson’s patrol vehicle in front of their headquarters in Lexington for mourners to stop by and pay their respects, according to a Facebook post made Friday afternoon. The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department headquarters is located at 521 Gibson Road in Lexington.
Outpourings of support for Jillian Olson’s family and her record of service have flooded social media since the 29-year-old’s death, which remains under investigation.
“Our hearts are broken by the loss of a valuable member of the Sheriff’s Department,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said in a news release Friday morning. “Jillian exemplified commitment and service. She faithfully carried out her duties and selflessly worked to make those around her better.”

The Illinois native began her career at the department in 2021, and had been a member of the dive team since 2024. She received several awards during her career, including Outstanding Judicial Services Deputy of the Year in 2023.
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources is leading the investigation into Olson’s death, with assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. The Lexington County Coroner’s Office is currently investigating Olson’s cause and manner of death, which has not yet been released.
“Jillian’s dedication to her community and department is well-documented with awards and recognitions,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “She’ll be most remembered for what she did with no fanfare. Her decision to join our dive team is just one example of her going above and beyond.”
