Man shot inside convenience store following fight, South Carolina police say

One man was taken to a South Carolina hospital and another to jail following a recent shooting inside a convenience store, according to the Sumter Police Department.

Keaton Alexander Garcia, a 27-year-old Sumter resident, charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime for his role in the Sunday morning shooting, police said in a news release.

At about 1:50 a.m., officers responded to a call about a shooting at a Pinewood Road convenience store, according to the release. Inside the store officers found a 24-year-old man who had been shot, police said.

The victim was taken to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, according to the release. Further information on the victim’s condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

Officers believe that Garcia and the victim were involved in a fight before the shooting, police said. Information about why the men were fighting, and if they knew each other prior to the incident, was not available.

Garcia left the store, but was later located and arrested, according to the release. He was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, and remains locked up after bond was denied Monday, police said.
