One of the nation’s most famous burger chains is prepping a new location in a growing Midlands area.

Wendy’s, which has restaurants across the U.S., is bringing a new location to the Blythewood area. The restaurant will be in the 100 block of Community Road, just off Wilson Boulevard. It will be next door to a Sharpe Shop Exxon station, just east of Westwood High School.
Construction appeared mostly complete on the new Wendy’s when a reporter briefly went by on Wednesday morning. An opening date for the burger joint has not been publicly announced.
There are more than 5,600 Wendy’s across the U.S., according to data website ScrapeHero. The company has 135 restaurants in South Carolina, per a location finder on its website, including more than a dozen spots in the greater Midlands area.

Wendy’s is known for its burgers, chicken sandwiches, nuggets, fries, Frosty frozen treats and kids meals, including a current promotion celebrating the 35th anniversary of video game hero Sonic the Hedgehog.
The area near Westwood High where the new Wendy’s is going is a growing spot. For instance, Publix announced earlier this year that it plans to build a new supermarket near Wilson Boulevard and Turkey Farm Road. A sign at that site says the Publix is coming soon.
