Midlands woman wins $500K after buying scratch off ticket on a whim

A Midlands woman is $500,000 richer after buying a scratch-off ticket in a spur-of-the-moment purchase, the S.C. Education Lottery said.

The woman, whose name was not released, told lottery officials she was buying a scratch-off ticket for her dad when she decided to take a chance on a $10 Cash Money ticket for herself.

“I was speechless,” she said when she saw the $500,000 prize.

The odds of winning $500,000 in the Cash Money game are 1 in 1.56 million. Two more top prizes remain in the game.

The woman bought the ticket at the Quick Corner #2 store on Broad Street in Sumter. Quick Corner #2 in Sumter received a $5,000 commission for selling the ticket.

The woman said she plans to use the prize money to help her family as needed.

“I won, but my family won, too,” she said.
