Two killed in head-on crash that left another person hospitalized, SC cops say

Two people were killed Monday in a crash on a Midlands road that left another person hospitalized, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The two-vehicle collision happened on Cordova Road in Orangeburg County, said Master Trooper Hannah Davidson. Information about what time the crash happened, and where on the road it occurred, was not available.

A 2017 Honda was driving west on Cordova Road when the driver tried to pass another vehicle and then crashed head-on with a 2018 Honda, according to Davidson.

Both the driver and passenger in the 2017 Honda died, Davidson said.

The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the victims who died.

The driver of the 2018 Honda was hurt and taken to an area hospital, according to Davidson. Further information on that driver’s condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no word if anyone involved in the wreck was wearing a seatbelt, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.

Through Sunday, 534 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. A minimum of 914 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.

At least 22 people have died in Orangeburg County crashes this year, and 31 people died in wrecks there in 2025, according to DPS data.
