A man was arrested for stealing more than $37,000 from the American Legion post where he worked, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

On May 14, David Savage was charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent ($10,000 or more), SLED said in a news release.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The 58-year-old Aiken resident was the finance officer for American Legion Post 26, according to the release. There was no word if Savage was still employed by the American Legion, and if not, under what terms he departed.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Between 2019 and 2025 the Savage accessed the post\u2019s bank account for his personal and financial gain, according to an arrest warrant.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Savage made numerous unauthorized transactions from TD Bank that totaled $37,412.93, the arrest warrant shows.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

There was no word about what Savage bought with the stolen money, or if all of it was spent.<\/p>\n

Savage was booked into the Aiken County Detention Center, SLED said in the release.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Aiken County court records show that a $5,000 personal recognizance bond was issued the same day Savage was arrested, and he\u2019s not currently listed on the jail\u2019s inmate roster.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Aiken County Sheriff\u2019s Office asked SLED to lead an investigation., and Savage will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Attorney General\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

If convicted on the felony charge, Savage faces a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison, according to South Carolina law.<\/p>\n
