Here\u2019s what to know<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>A 2019 study, \u201cRight-to-Carry Laws and Violent Crime,\u201d found that permit-less laws are associated with 13\u201315 percent higher aggregate violent crime rates 10 years after adoption. 2024 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicated South Carolina had the 12<sup>th<\/sup> highest firearm mortality rate in the nation, up from 13<sup>th<\/sup> in 2023.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The law also stipulated possession of a firearm alone does not give a law enforcement officer reasonable suspicion or probable cause to search, detain, or arrest the person. Harkless said she wants tighter restrictions on firearms.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Francis said the violence and its aftermath are painful for the community, especially following Rich Chow\u2019s controversial acquittal in the shooting of Cyrus Carmack-Belton.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy go through all that?\u201d Francis said. \u201cIf everybody keeps thinking on one level, we never gonna get nowhere, nobody coming to a real agreement.
