Here\u2019s what we know<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>A motive for the attack has not been released.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Linwood Carlton retreated to a bedroom in the home and defied orders to surrender, the sheriff\u2019s office said. He was taken into custody with the help of pepper spray, officials said. Court records show he lives in the 2000 block of Ham Street.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The victim was taken to UNC Health Lenoir for treatment of injuries to his left upper arm, the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Carlton was taken to a facility for pepper spray \u201cdecontamination,\u201d then charged with felony attempted first-degree murder, felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill\/inflicting serious injury, and resisting a public officer, officials said.
