Smaller rooms, less storage, different weather demands, parking issues, or stricter neighborhood rules may sound like practical details, but they affect everyday comfort.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>South Carolina once again earned the title of the fastest-growing state in the country this year according to U.S. Census Data, but that influx hasn\u2019t come entirely without its challenges, raising home prices and creating heavy traffic in areas that are still considered to be more affordable, less densely-populated markets.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The state outpaced net population growth nationally by more than double in 2025, a trend mostly driven by migration from other U.S. states, but it might be a good idea for some potential homebuyers to be aware of the less glamorous aspects of living in some South Carolina cities before making a commitment.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<h2>Charleston<\/h2>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Charleston topped the list at 26th nationally, with homeowners attracted by the historic city\u2019s charm most often surprised by the intense demand for high-quality housing and unexpected stress of living in a city regularly rocked by hurricanes, tropical storms and flooding.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The median home price in Charleston is just under $640,000, up more than 5% from the same time period last year, according to real estate brokerage Redfin.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Tack on parking costs and an average humidity of 72% annually, and there are a few factors that might not have originally crossed transplants\u2019 minds.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<h2>Rock Hill<\/h2>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Rock Hill is an attractive option for many people, located in a prime location for job opportunities between the Columbia and Charlotte metros.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>However, this city is evidently not immune to the pitfalls of rapid growth, ranking 74th on the list for its gap between housing expectation and reality.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Traffic and the changing character of the neighborhoods were some of the reasons homeowners were surprised when they settled in Rock Hill.
