The NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC released a severe thunderstorm warning at 3:47 p.m. on Sunday in effect until 4:45 p.m. for Oconee County.<\/p>\n

The storms could bring quarter-sized hail (1 inch) and wind gusts of up to 60 mph.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“At 3:46 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Toccoa to 3 miles east of Homer, moving east at 25 mph,” says the NWS. “Minor hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to trees and power lines.”<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Locations impacted by the warning include Toccoa, Carnesville, Westminster, Lavonia, Gumlog, Canon, Martin, Avalon, Tugaloo State Park and Boydville.<\/p>\n

The NWS states, “For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. If on or near Lake Hartwell north of the I-85 bridge, get away from the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 15 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.”<\/p>\n
