Fire crews were working to protect structures along Highway 1 in the Ventana area.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>As of Tuesday morning, all state parks in Big Sur were closed. As of midday, Highway 1 was closed to the public between Fernwood Resort and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park Vista Point, according to the California Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>On Monday afternoon, Monterey County announced that an evacuation shelter for Timber Fire evacuees had been opened at Carmel Middle School at 4380 Carmel Valley Road.
