{"id":4586,"date":"2026-08-12T23:36:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-12T23:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usmovingexpertss.com\/?p=4586"},"modified":"2026-08-12T23:36:00","modified_gmt":"2026-08-12T23:36:00","slug":"student-killed-in-shooting-at-school-bus-stop-in-south-carolina-coroner-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usmovingexpertss.com\/?p=4586","title":{"rendered":"Student killed in shooting at school bus stop in South Carolina, coroner says"},"content":{"rendered":"<article><!-- --><!-- --><!-- WPS-5038 -- removed the script from WPS and added the placeholder for trinity player --><!-- --><!-- --><!-- --><!-- --><!-- --><!-- --><!-- CONTENT --><!--[--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>There was a deadly shooting at a school bus stop Wednesday morning, according to South Carolina officials.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/usmovingexpertss.com\/?p=4585\">Silfab and York County face lawsuits, including this one that\u2019s now fast tracked<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Jomiltron Sentell Fair Jr., a 17-year-old Gaffney High School student, was shot and killed while boarding a school bus Wednesday morning, Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The shooting happened at a bus stop in the 500 block of West Rutledge Avenue, according to the Gaffney Police Department.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Cherokee County government officials said it mourned \u201cthe tragic loss of a young life,\u201d in a news release.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy heart is broken over the tragic news of the shooting this morning,\u201d Gaffney Mayor Dr. Lyman Dawkins III said in a Facebook post. \u201cOur community is hurting, and this violence has to stop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>At about 6:50 a.m., Fair walked from his apartment across the street from the bus stop and was about to board the bus when a male approached him, according to Fowler. After a short altercation, Fair was shot and died at the scene, Fowler said.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>No other injuries were reported.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Surveillance cameras on the bus showed the shooter go to a waiting vehicle driven by another person immediately after the gunfire, according to Fowler. There were 15 students on the bus at the time of the shooting, Fowler said.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Monday was the first day of the school year at Gaffney High.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>No arrests have been reported by police, who said they\u2019re \u201cworking closely with the Cherokee County School District as we continue to manage this incident and ensure the safety of our community, students, and school personnel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/usmovingexpertss.com\/?p=4584\">DNA, prior testimony? Friday\u2019s Alex Murdaugh hearing to air swarm of contested issues<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>In a Facebook post of its own, the school district said that there\u2019s \u201cno current danger to our schools,\u201d and that classes are operating \u201cwith appropriate safety measures in place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe understand that incidents like this can be frightening for students, families, and staff,\u201d the school district said in the post.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>There was no word about a motive for the shooting.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division\u2019s Department of Child Fatalities is assisting with the investigation, WHNS reported.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cCherokee County extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, classmates, teachers, and everyone impacted by this senseless act of violence,\u201d government officials said. \u201cThere are simply no words that can ease the heartbreak of a family or a community facing a loss like this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>An autopsy will be performed as part of the coroner\u2019s ongoing investigation.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an absolute tragedy.
