It will serve as a sheriff\u2019s office, a fire station, an EMS center and a county magistrate\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Long in the making, the new center at 5585 Augusta Highway is meant to bring Lexington County services closer to where more of the county\u2019s residents are.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve seen the need for a long time now, but it was a long process to get the funding together,\u201d said County Councilman Larry Brigham, whose district stretches across western Lexington County. \u201cWe\u2019ve provided statistical data on response times, and it\u2019s always been lower than what we would like&#8230; Now those response times will be a lot quicker.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The surrounding community around the towns of Gilbert and Summit has seen explosive growth in recent years, and Lexington County Council approved the new west region center \u2014 at an ultimate cost of $14.5 million \u2014 to provide faster services to this new population.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDriving out here, you can see how the community has developed,\u201d Koon said. \u201cThis was needed to be able to provide security for our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/usmovingexpertss.com\/?p=4632\">Follow Alex Murdaugh\u2019s Friday murder hearing in SC court live here<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Koon said past locations of the county\u2019s services in the rural area had moved from \u201chouses to offices to a strip mall by a strawberry patch.\u201d The new center will not only combine emergency services for the west side of Lexington, but will also serve as the new home for the county magistrate\u2019s office formally housed in Batesburg-Leesville.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw the postmaster the other day, and they said \u2018Are you leaving us?\u2019\u201d said Judge Gary Morgan, the area\u2019s assistant chief magistrate. \u201cAnd I said, \u2018No, we\u2019re just moving down the road\u2019&#8230; We\u2019re not going to abandon Batesburg-Leesville.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Morgan said a new courtroom was badly needed for the local magistrate\u2019s office, which was only 1,200 square feet in Batesburg.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow many people can say they leave a house in the morning that\u2019s bigger than a courthouse?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The space was so small opposing side were \u201cwithin two and a half feet of each other, no matter how much they hated each other,\u201d Morgan said. \u201cWe had to call in a fake fire for a jury trial so that the fire marshal would be somewhere else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The fire station attached to the new center will be named for Paul Quattlebaum, a Lexington County firefighter of 22 years who was struck and killed by a semi-truck in 2019 while responding to a vehicle collision.
