{"id":4855,"date":"2026-08-18T13:39:43","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T13:39:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usmovingexpertss.com\/?p=4855"},"modified":"2026-08-18T13:39:43","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T13:39:43","slug":"sc-needs-to-train-more-nurses-amid-workforce-shortage-but-who-will-teach-them","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usmovingexpertss.com\/?p=4855","title":{"rendered":"SC needs to train more nurses amid workforce shortage, but who will teach them?"},"content":{"rendered":"<article><!-- --><!-- --><!-- WPS-5038 -- removed the script from WPS and added the placeholder for trinity player --><!-- --><!-- --><!-- --><!-- --><!-- --><!-- CONTENT --><!--[--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>South Carolina is starting to put a dent in its nursing shortage, but it needs more instructors to finish the job.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/usmovingexpertss.com\/?p=4853\">Lexington GOP backs Norman in runoff, despite Graham getting most votes in primary<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Without them, the state simply can\u2019t train enough nursing students to keep pace with the growing demand for services as South Carolina\u2019s population ages.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have the student interest,\u201d said Jeannette Andrews, dean of the University of South Carolina College of Nursing. \u201cBut how are we going to increase our output, our graduates each year?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>USC wants to be part of that solution.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The school announced last week it was expanding a successful pilot program aimed at developing a nursing faculty pipeline to help address what continues to be one of the nation\u2019s largest nursing shortages.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>As of last December, South Carolina had nearly 12,000 fewer nurses than it needed to meet the state\u2019s current health care demands, according to the Health Resources and Services Administration, a federal agency that tracks supply and demand for health care professions.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>While the state is projected to narrow its nursing workforce gap to 7,250 by 2038, according to the agency\u2019s latest estimates, that shortfall would still constitute one of the largest in the nation.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>As part of USC\u2019s initiative to prepare the next generation of nurse educators, the university will partner with Clemson University and the Medical University of South Carolina to support nine doctoral nursing students \u2014 three at each university \u2014 during the final two years of their degree programs.<\/p>\n<p><!-- --><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The doctoral fellows, whose training expenses and salaries will be covered by the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation, will work full time as faculty members at their respective institutions while completing their degrees.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost universities recruit new faculty after they\u2019ve finished their doctoral degrees,\u201d said Liam C. Hein, a USC nursing professor who is involved with the project. \u201cWe\u2019re taking a different approach by helping future faculty develop as educators while they\u2019re still students.
