Clothing retailer Flaherty has selected downtown Greenville for its third South Carolina store.<\/p>\n

The New York City-based chain has some 80 stores nationwide including Charleston\u2019s King Street and Kiawah Island.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It will be located at 200 N. Main St. in what is now Dapper Dog.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cI am almost giddy with it,\u201d Mayor Knox White said. \u201cWe have about three more lined up to come in, the stores on everyone\u2019s list of \u2018I want this in Greenville.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

He did not say what the other stores are or when they will be announced.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

White said the plan is to make the north end of Main Street \u2014anchored by the Hyatt Regency Hotel \u2014 \u201creally solid shopping.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are going to be a top shopping destination in South Carolina with these brands and locals in there too,\u201d White said.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the company could not be reached for comment.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The store is expected to open in early 2027, the city said in a news release.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Flaherty was founded in 2013 by twin brothers Mike and Alex Faherty. Their website says it is a childhood dream of theirs to run a clothing company and was inspired by their years surfing at the Jersey shore.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Mike Flaherty wrote his college essay about launching the brand, studied fashion design at Washington University and worked for Ralph Lauren\u2019s Double RL, his sister-in-law Kerry Docherty told Inc. magazine in June.<\/p>\n

She oversees impact initiates for the brand.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In his essay he called it Coast to Curb, \u201cclothing designed with the spirit of the coast, but that could work in the city,\u201d Flaherty told Entrepreneur magazine earlier this year.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Docherty\u2019s husband studied finance at Yale and then worked on Wall Street.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I met Alex the first day of college, he told me one day he wanted to have his own clothing company,\u201d she told Inc. \u201cIt sounded implausible. But by 2013, only a year after Alex and I married, we all quit our jobs to start Faherty.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The twins\u2019 mother Ninie designs the interiors of the stores.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cShe also worked in the warehouse shipping our early products, like board shorts and bikinis, in the early years. It was all hands-on deck, and we each had to do all the jobs required to get the brand up and running,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cWe create premium pieces that are easy to wear and hard to wear out \u2014 blending American Heritage style with a modern mountain-to-coast spirit,\u201d the company website says.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cSoftness is our signature,\u201d they say. \u201cWe\u2019ve traveled the world in search of the highest-quality, most sustainable materials \u2014 so that every piece we create is as responsible as it is refined.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It is now a $250 million dollar business.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

They also own Sun and Waves Cafe on the Jersey Shore \u201cto stay connected to our roots,\u201d Docherty said.<\/p>\n
