The legal guardians of a 4-year-old girl who died in April were arrested Thursday and charged with homicide by child abuse.

The Sheriff’s Office reported Cassie Cheryl Ann Owens was “denied proper nutrition.”
Officers with the Sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Specialized Investigations Team arrested Nancy Dianne West, 42, and Bradley Kyle Craig, 46, at their home on Chinquapin Road in Travelers Rest.
Court records show they were married in 2021.
They were denied bond Friday morning.
The Sheriff’s Office said they were the child’s legal guardians.
“The individuals in question in the death of the 4-year-old in Greenville County have never been licensed foster parents in the State of South Carolina through the Department of Social Services,” the Department of Social Services said.
The Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Friday that at about 6 p.m. April 24, 2026 first responders went to the Chinquapin Road home after receiving a call about an unresponsive child, who was found to be in cardiac arrest.

She was taken to Prisma Health North Greenville Hospital, where she died.
An obituary for Cassie Cheryl Ann Owens said she was born May 23, 2021 in Greenville to Matthew Owens and Tashia Baldwin.
“Though her time here was far too brief, she filled every moment with boundless joy, light, and happiness. Cassie was a curious and spirited little girl whose sweetest laugh could brighten any room. She had a way of making everyone around her feel truly special,” the obituary says.
The family called her a “sassy little princess with a vivid imagination.”
A friend of Baldwin’s who started a gofundme page to raise money for cremation said, “Cassie Owens was a bright and loving 4-year-old whose life was tragically cut short.”
“To make things even harder, there was no life insurance in place for Cassie, leaving her mother with the overwhelming responsibility of arranging a proper farewell without the means to do so,” the gofundme page said.
