Elena Moore’s autopsy results have been released. Here’s what we know

Preliminary autopsy findings of Elena Moore, the Lexington County woman who had been missing for a week before her body was founded, were released Monday.

No cause of death was identified following an autopsy at the Medical University of South Carolina, according to a news release from the Lexington County Coroner’s Office. An official cause remains pending until further testing.

An examination of Moore’s body did not reveal evidence of traumatic injuries, officials said. No bruising, lacerations, gunshot wounds, stab wounds, blunt force trauma, strangulation or other external injuries were found.

According to the coroner’s office, additional evaluation is required, including an examination of tissue samples, looking at medical records and toxicology testing.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office will not release any additional information until all pending studies have been completed and a pathologist has determined the cause and manner of death, the coroner’s office said in Monday’s release.

The body of a white female was discovered June 17 near Old Cherokee Road and North Lake Drive in Lexington County. On the evening of June 19, the Lexington County Coroner’s Office publicly identified Moore as the woman whose body was discovered.

Moore was first reported missing by police on June 12.

Initial reports said that Moore was last seen June 11 at 5609 Sunset Boulevard. That’s near the intersection with North Lake Drive in a part of Lexington densely packed with retail businesses and restaurants in strip malls.

That was updated to show that at 6:40 p.m. June 11, Moore signed in to the Planet Fitness, which she frequently visited, at 560 Whiteford Way.

Moore was seen walking away from Planet Fitness toward the wooded area behind Lowe’s home improvement store, according to police.

Since then, police said they obtained surveillance footage that shows Moore walking through the Publix parking lot, at 100 Old Cherokee Road, at 9:17 p.m. on June 11.

In that footage, Moore was wearing the olive-green zip-up hoodie with black athletic pants that she was seen in at Planet Fitness, according to police. That description matched the clothing on the body found June 17.
