A Richland County man is headed to federal prison after an investigation revealed he’d dealt cocaine throughout the Carolinas, according to the South Carolina U.S. Attorney’s Office.

David Omar Echevarria was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in federal prison for drug conspiracy after an FBI investigation discovered Echevarria was receiving packages of cocaine from Puerto Rico and distributing the drug around North and South Carolina, according to a news release. U.S. District Court Judge Joseph Anderson handed down the sentence.
During their investigation, the FBI made several purchases of cocaine from Echevarria, the release said. The agency estimates Echevarria distributed more than 5 kilograms of cocaine in total.

Besides the FBI, the DEA and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service assisted in the investigation, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney William Witherspoon, the release said.
Following his 10-year sentence, Echevarria will be subject to five years probation, according to the release.
