Cooling System’s Gone Rogue (Sport)
According to the latest automotive lawsuit in town, the Nissan Rogue Sport (otherwise known as the Qashqai in other parts of the world) is in the crosshairs of lawyers and disgruntled owners alike, as a proposed class action suit has just been filed. Nissan Rogue Sports from 2017 to 2022 are affected, and the crux of the issue is faulty radiator fans that cause the engine to reach dangerous temperatures.

After an engine overheats and blows its top, it’s pretty much a surefire sign that it needs to be brought to a trusted mechanic for a rebuild or repair. High heat will lead to premature wear and, in extreme cases, a blown motor. This 48-page lawsuit alleges that Nissan “knew or should have known” that the Rogue Sport had faulty fans, which it failed to disclose to its customers.
Defective
The lawsuit claims that Nissan knew about the issue, but chose not to disclose it to its customers. Customer complaints were logged as far back as July 2020, which is two years before the first affected year models even existed. During that time, at least one customer reported a faulty fan and got a replacement. The defect reoccurred, and another replacement was given.
No such recall or repair service was provided to owners, leaving them frightfully unaware that their engines could have the potential to blow up, the lawsuit contends. Reading on, it also detailed other potential problems a faulty radiator fan can cause, including affecting the engine and the air conditioning system.
Overheating is Bad
The lawsuit spells it out like a mechanic’s handbook. If an engine overheats, it can lead to complete failure and permanent damage. In a nutshell, an engine can stall, seize, or even melt. Even before temperatures reach dangerous levels, excessive heat can cause premature wear over the long term.

On top of that, the lawsuit contends that the failed radiator fans are causing air-conditioning system failures. According to the suit, air conditioning failure could lead to dangerous situations such as an overly stuffy and hot interior during a rainstorm – wherein it would be impractical to roll down a window.
Nissan’s inaction could lead to this lawsuit gaining steam, and, in addition, the complaint includes Nissan’s marketing materials that touted the benefits of the Nissan Rogue Sport’s engine without mentioning the faulty rad fans.
All 2017 to 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport owners are eligible to take part in this class action as long as they’ve purchased or leased the Nissan vehicles in the United States and its territories.
