Crews responded to a Morninglo Lane home and saw fire shooting from multiple sides of the building, fire department officials said Wednesday in a news release. That’s in a part of Columbia between I-77 and Richland Northeast High School.

Firefighters stretched hoses to two points of the home and began extinguishing the fire through the kitchen window and gable vent, according to the release. The crew then advanced through the front door of the house and worked to prevent the fire from spreading, officials said.

The fire was extinguished and the scene was brought under control, according to the release. Information about how long it took to put out the fire was not available.

The owner of the home escaped safely and no one was injured, the fire department said.

The fire was determined to have been caused by unattended cooking, according to the release. There was no word about the extent of the damage to the home, or if it was considered a total loss.

Multiple crews responded to the burning building, and the Fort Jackson Fire Department also provided support, officials said.

This is the latest in a string of recent fires in South Carolina, which are suspected to have been caused by various factors, including a mosquito repellent candle, fireworks, a lightning strike and possible arson.
