Khamanti Lytrel Kennedy, 18, was charged with murder Wednesday following a previous murder charge on Feb. 17 in connection with a deadly shooting on Feb. 12 at Hugine Suites — a dormitory on S.C. State’s campus.

On Feb. 12, police say Kennedy and three others arrived on campus and were seen entering Hugine Suites via a surveillance camera. The trio later returned to their vehicle before re-entering the dormitory, according to arrest warrants. A shooting then ensued inside, leaving two people dead and another injured.

Investigators determined from witness statements that Kennedy, while at the dorm, had participated in a drug deal gone wrong, which led to an attempted armed robbery and the shooting, the warrant said.

A witness told police that Kennedy was armed and directly involved with the shooting, according to the warrant. The 18-year-old was also captured by a surveillance camera fleeing the incident on foot.

A third unidentified victim was injured and transported to an area hospital, police said.

Kennedy was served with the second murder charge while incarcerated at the Orangeburg County Detention Center, where he’s been since his February arrest.
