South Carolina man dies after being ejected from car in crash, coroner says

A South Carolina man recently died in a Georgia hospital days after he was involved in a car crash, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.

At 4:55 a.m. Wednesday, 64-year-old Beech Island resident Aaron Reinhart died at WellStar MCG Health Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia, Coroner Darryl Ables said in a news release.

Reinhart died from the injuries he suffered in what Ables called an accident.

At about 6:30 p.m. on June 11, Reinhart was driving a 2000 Ford Mustang north on Storm Branch Road, according to the release. Near the intersection with Branch Court the Mustang ran off the right side of the road where it crashed into a ditch then flipped, Ables said.

Reinhart, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the car, according to the release.

No other injuries were reported.

Information about what caused the car to veer off the road was not available, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the coroner’s office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Through Sunday, 448 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. A minimum of 914 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.

At least 14 people have died in Aiken County crashes this year, and 23 people died in wrecks there in 2025, according to DPS data.
