Fight leads to person getting shot in Columbia’s Five Points, SC police say

An early morning fight on Sunday in South Carolina led to a man getting shot, according to the Columbia Police Department.

The shooting happened at about 2:45 a.m. in the 1100 block of Harden Street, police said in a news release. That’s next to the intersection with Gervais Street in the Five Points area of Columbia.

There was a fight and at some point a gun was pulled then a man was shot, according to the release. Information about what led to the fight, and the number of people involved, was not available.

Officers responded to reports of the shooting where the victim was located then taken to an area hospital, police said. Further information on the victim’s condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

Police said they have identified a suspected shooter and that person was questioned. No arrests have been reported, but the shooting remains under investigation.

Hours before Sunday’s gunfire, there was a fatal shooting in downtown Columbia, police said.

On Saturday, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 1100 block of Hampton Street, police said. Officers found both a 28-year-old man, who was arrested on multiple charges, and the shooting victim who died at the scene, according to police.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the victim in Saturday’s shooting.
