A new Columbia location is coming for this growing, popular restaurant chain

A popular restaurant chain known for its burgers, barbecue sandwiches, shakes and more is bringing a new location to Columbia.

Cook Out, which has locations in several states, will open a restaurant at 1331 Roberts Branch Parkway, just off Killian Road, in northeast Columbia. The Cook Out will be in a space that formerly was home to a Steak ‘n Shake.

The coming Roberts Branch Parkway Cook Out location is listed as “coming soon” on the company’s website. Signage for Cook Out has gone up on the building and at the roadside near Killian Road. Work to convert the interior into a Cook Out was ongoing when a reporter briefly went by Monday morning.

An opening date for the Roberts Branch Parkway location has not been publicly announced.

There are more than 370 Cook Out locations nationwide, per data website ScrapeHero. The coming restaurant in northeast Columbia will be the eighth Cook Out in the Columbia and Lexington area. The company opened a location on the Charleston Highway in West Columbia last year.

Cook Out is known for its extensive fast-food menu, including, among other offerings, burgers, hot dogs, barbecue, corn dogs, quesadillas, chicken sandwiches, chicken strips, and extremely thick milkshakes.

The Killian Road area of northeast Columbia just east of Interstate 20 is lined with a number of restaurants and commercial businesses. About 41,000 cars per day travel along Killian Road, per SC Department of Transportation data.
