Not only is it delicious, but the business has a significant impact on the nation’s economy. According to the International Dairy Foods Association, the ice cream industry has an $11.6 billion impact on the U.S. economy, supports 26,704 direct jobs, and generates $1.9 billion in direct wages.

While ice cream is one of the most beloved frozen treats out there, some flavors are much more popular than others. There are hundreds of flavors to choose from, and each state has its own favorites.

To discover the most popular ice cream option in each state, Plinko analyzed search data from Google Keyword Planner for over 100 ice cream flavors across America.

“Consumer tastes change season-on-season, year-on-year, and our findings reveal just that, with trending flavors like ube and matcha appearing among the most popular alongside classic options such as chocolate and strawberry,” said Jeremey Anubis, a Plinko analyst, in a statement. However, vanilla and Neapolitan ranking in the most-loved spots indicates nostalgia-driven flavors are still holding strong.“

Here are South Carolina’s most popular ice cream choices, according to the study:

SC favorite ice cream flavors

SC is pretty basic when it comes to ice cream, but there’s a special fondness for peach that’s not found across many other states.

  1. Vanilla: 1,730 monthly search volume in SC
  2. Neapolitan: 1,370 monthly search volume in SC
  3. Superman: 1,010 monthly search volume in SC
  4. Peach: 840 monthly search volume in SC
  5. Chocolate: 820 monthly search volume in SC

Here are the 10 most popular ice cream flavors across the U.S., according to the study.

  1. Vanilla: 114,200 monthly search volume in U.S.
  2. Neapolitan: 93,640 monthly search volume in U.S.
  3. Mango: 68,680 monthly search volume in U.S.
  4. Chocolate: 54,190 monthly search volume in U.S.
  5. Rocky Road: 53,030 monthly search volume in U.S.
  6. Spumoni: 48,790 monthly search volume in U.S.
  7. Superman: 44,430 monthly search volume in U.S.
  8. Strawberry: 43,810 monthly search volume in U.S.
  9. Ube: 41,170 monthly search volume in U.S.
  10. Matcha: 39,730 monthly search volume in U.S.

Methodology

Plinko used search data from Google Keyword Planner to determine each state’s top ice cream flavor. Five variations were combined with each of the flavors: “[flavor] ice cream,” “[flavor] ice cream recipe,” “how to make [flavor] ice cream,” “how to make homemade [flavor] ice cream,” and “[flavor] ice cream near me.”
