‘We need to get him home,’ South Carolina sheriff says of missing man

A search is underway in South Carolina Thursday for a missing man who is believed to be in danger.

Sammie Bonaparte was publicly reported missing at about 7:45 a.m. by the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office. The 68-year-old has been missing for several hours, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Bonaparte was last seen around 4:40 a.m. near Mill Drive, according to the release.

There was no word if Bonaparte was alone when he was last seen, and the sheriff’s office did not say if foul play was suspected in his disappearance.

Bonaparte was called “endangered,” by the sheriff’s office, but information about why was not available.

The sheriff’s office described Bonaparte as a 5-foot-11, 135-pound man who was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and blue pajama pants.

Anyone who has seen the missing man, or has information about Bonaparte, is asked to call the Orangeburg County Communications Center at 803-534-3550.

In the case of an emergency, always call 911.

“If you have seen him or have any information on his location, please call us,” Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said in the release. “We need to get him home as soon as possible.”
