A woman was recently arrested after she tried cashing in a winning lottery ticket, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division said Thursday in a news release.

Monique Patrice Nivens, a 49-year-old Cheraw resident, was charged with intent to defraud, counterfeit game tickets because she fraudulently acquired the ticket, according to an arrest warrant.
Information about how Nivens got the illicit lottery ticket was not available. But on June 22, she tried redeeming the winning game for a $200 prize at a gas station/convenience store at 243 Market Street in the Cheraw area of Chesterfield County, the arrest warrant shows.
SLED charged Nivens on July 16, according to the release.
Nivens was booked into the Chesterfield County Detention Center, but was released the same day she was arrested after being issued a $5,000 personal recognizance bond, court records show.

She will be prosecuted by the 4th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, according to the release.
The SLED investigation was requested by South Carolina Education Lottery.
