A Columbia man was sentenced to more than four years in federal prison for possessing a firearm illegally, according to a South Carolina U.S. district attorney news release.

U.S. District Judge Mary Geiger Lewis sentenced Davante Jamar Moore, 34, of Columbia to 57 months in prison, followed by three years of court-ordered supervision.
Previous convictions related for robbery, assault and battery meant Moore could not legally possess a firearm, according to the news release.

Columbia Police Department officers searched Moore’s vehicle in May 2024 during a traffic stop and found a loaded gun, marijuana, a scale and a container with white powder. A K9 alerted to the scent of narcotics during the traffic stop.
Moore previously pleaded guilty for illegally possessing a gun in March, according to a news release.
