The South Carolina senator died in his home due to sudden complications from an aortic dissection, a life-threatening tear in the inner wall of the body’s main artery.
Today, friends and family are gathering in Washington, D.C., to honor Lindsey Graham. There will be several ceremonies recognizing his decades of service in the Air Force and the U.S. Senate. The public will be able to watch his funeral service at the Washington National Cathedral at 2 p.m. via YouTube livestream.
“I am grateful to all those who have come together to help honor and remember Lindsey.” Said Senator Darline Graham, the sister of Lindsey Graham. “I would like to extend my sincere thanks to President Trump and his team, Washington National Cathedral, Senate leadership, First Baptist Church of Columbia and the Senate Sergeant at Arms for going above and beyond to ensure these will be honorable tributes to Lindsey.”
Later this evening, his remains will be transported back to SC, and preparations will start for tomorrow’s funeral service at the SC State House in Columbia. The public is invited to pay respects along the procession route when it starts at approximately 10:45 a.m.
The funeral procession will begin on the South side of the State House to the North Side via the West Walkway. His remains will be carried by the South Carolina State Guard caisson detachment, according to a press release from Lindsey Graham’s office.
Around 11 a.m., the caisson will proceed down Main Street and arrive at First Baptist Church of Columbia. Doors open at 10 a.m. to the public, and seats are first come, first served. The service begins at 12 p.m.

Weather forecast for Lindsey Graham’s funeral
While heavy thunderstorms, rain and wind are expected in the Midlands tonight, the weather should calm down a little by tomorrow, just in time for Lindsey Graham’s funeral.
The National Weather Service’s latest forecast said a quarter of an inch of rain is expected throughout SC between Tuesday and Thursday, and scattered showers/storms are still slightly possible in the Columbia area. Most likely, it will only be partly cloudy during the funeral.
AccuWeather said that on Wednesday, the Columbia area will be humid and temperatures will reach the mid-90s. They also said there’s a slight chance of rain in the afternoon, but not enough to warrant bringing an umbrella.
There’s no dress code for the ceremonies, so wear whatever makes you comfortable in this heat. There might be a lot of walking if you plan to go to the state house to honor Lindsey Graham, so make sure to bring some water and maybe a fan.
