Coastal Crust, a family-owned company with several locations in the Charleston and Upstate areas of South Carolina, will open a new restaurant at 2158 Pickens St. in the BullStreet District near downtown Columbia at 11 a.m. Aug. 4, per a news release. The new pizzeria is next door to the Gather COLA food hall, overlooking BullStreet’s The Lawn recreational space.

“Our business has always been built around the idea that sharing a great meal with family and friends creates lasting memories,” Coastal Crust owner Brian Piesner said in a statement. “We’re incredibly excited to become part of the Columbia community and bring the same passion, craftsmanship, and hospitality that our guests have come to know and love in Charleston and in the Upstate.”

Coastal Crust offers Neapolitan wood-fired pizzas, salads, pasta, antipasto dishes, dessert and more. The company said in a release that it “focuses on quality ingredients, genuine hospitality and creating meaningful moments around the table.”

The new pizza spot is the latest addition to the BullStreet District. Hughes Development and the city of Columbia are in the midst of a two-decade effort to convert the sprawling 181-acre former State Mental Hospital site into a multi-use district with townhomes, apartments, stores, restaurants, the Columbia Fireflies minor league baseball team, the University of South Carolina’s upcoming new medical school and more.

“Coastal Crust has built a brand that’s rooted in great food and hospitality, and we’re proud to welcome them to the BullStreet District,” Hughes Development CEO Robert Hughes said in a release. “It’s the kind of place that fits naturally here. You can grab a pizza, walk right out onto The Lawn and spend time with family, friends and neighbors. Those everyday moments are what create a strong sense of community, and that’s exactly the vision for BullStreet.”
