Woman’s body recovered from the Broad River in Columbia, authorities say

Emergency personnel recovered a woman’s body in a Columbia area river on Sunday afternoon.

Columbia-Richland Fire Department Chief Aubrey Jenkins told The State the body was recovered from the Broad River, in the area of the 4100 block of River Drive, just after 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford told The State on Monday that the victim is a white female, and the woman was deceased when responders got to the scene. The coroner’s office had not publicly identified the woman as of 12:45 p.m. Monday.

The Columbia Police Department also responded to the incident, Jenkins said.
