Argument turns into a fight then a shooting, Columbia police say

A recent shooting in South Carolina left one person injured and another in the Richland County jail, according to the Columbia Police Department.

At about 9:35 a.m. Monday, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 4000 block of Plowden Road, police said in a news release. That’s near Shop Road in the Rosewood area of Columbia.

Officers found a victim who had been shot in the right leg, police publicly reported Tuesday night. Information about the victim’s condition was not available, but police called the injuries “moderate.”

The victim told officers said there was a verbal altercation with 28-year-old Christopher D. Robinson, who lives at the address where the shooting happened, according to an incident report. It was not clear if the victim also lives at the same address, or if they knew Robinson prior to Monday’s incident.

The argument turned into a physical fight, with the victim saying they were hit in the face before the shooting, according to police.

Investigators said that Robinson fired a gun multiple times, according to the release.

Detectives interviewed Robinson, who was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent felony, police said.

Robinson was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where he remains locked up after bond was denied on both charges, jail records show. Robinson, who has been arrested multiple times in the past 8 years, is scheduled to appear in court again on Oct. 30, according to Richland County judicial records.
