Fight between family members ends with murder charge, Columbia police say

A fight between relatives Tuesday ended with one dead and a South Carolina man in jail, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Emmanuel Meminger, a 38-year-old Columbia resident, is the person who died, Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford said.

Ivory Meminger II, a 42-year-old Walterboro resident, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, police said Wednesday in a news release.

The deadly incident happened at a home in the 500 block of Kimpton Drive, according to the release. That’s in a part of Columbia between I-20 and Percival Road.

Officers responded to the home after a physical altercation involving family members, police said. nformation about why the relatives were fighting was not available.

During the fight, one person was stabbed and died at the scene, according to the release.

No other injuries were reported.

The suspect, later identified as Ivory Meminger, remained at the residence and was taken into custody without incident before getting booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

Bond has not been set for Ivory Meminger, who remains locked up, jail records show.

“This is a deeply unfortunate incident involving family members, and our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this tragedy,” Deputy Chief Melron Kelly said in the release.
