July was hot enough, with more than 130 all-time high temperature records set across the nation, USA Today said. Additionally, more than 180 records were set for all-time overnight temperatures. Many of the records were broken in the High Plains and in the Northeast.
An early heatwave on Aug. 1 and 2 in the Southwest has already shattered record temperatures in Arizona, with highs in the mid-110s. Extreme heat also reached several other states, including Nevada and California, according to NBC News.
The heat has been tough to handle since summer began, but no relief is expected any time soon, especially in the Southeast. Overall, above-normal temperatures are forecasted across the country through much of this month.
The National Weather Service released several temperature outlooks for August, showing how likely different parts of the U.S. are to experience extreme heat throughout the period. South Carolinians will likely not catch a break from the heat, based on the forecasts.

Their forecast between Aug. 9 and 13 predicts that nearly the entire country will face above-average temperatures, but the East Coast will bear the brunt of it. SC has a 60-70% chance of seeing above-average temperatures during this period. A normal amount of rain is expected in SC.
Between Aug. 11 and 17, the heat is predicted to be more concentrated in the Southeast, and SC will have the same chance of seeing above-average temperatures. The same goes for the state’s rain chances.
Between Aug. 15 and 28, the heat is supposed to die down a little, with parts of the country experiencing normal temperatures again. Much of SC still has a 40-50% chance of experiencing above-normal temperatures. Some areas of the Lowcountry may face below-normal rain chances.
Columbia’s August forecast
AccuWeather is also predicting a warmer August than usual for Columbia. Throughout the month, they’re forecasting daily high temperatures ranging from 87 degrees to 97 degrees, with overnight lows between 68 degrees and 75 degrees.
