He posted lots of photos of 39-year-old Nicki Evans on social media and heard from people around the country — Florida, Ohio and elsewhere.
He offered a $10,000 reward.
Then, earlier this week — on his birthday — he learned she was dead.
Her skeletal remains had been found not far from the place she disappeared in Campobello in Spartanburg County.
“This is the saddest post I wish I never had to make. The search is over for Nicki,” he posted on Facebook.
Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said remains were found on Monday and on Tuesday he announced they had been identified as Tamara Nichole Evans. The cause and manner of death had not been determined Wednesday.
Clevenger said an anthropology exam was needed.
Evans was last seen at a residence on Melvin Hill Road in Campobello June 26. Her remains were found Aug. 3 in a wooded area about half a mile away in a wooded area, 1,300 feet from Wilson Drive, also in the Campobello community.
In a missing persons flyer released by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, Evans was said to be suffering from mental illness and there was concern she may harm herself.

In a gofundme account, Amanda Rutland wrote, “Nicki was more than a missing person. She was a daughter, a mother, a friend, and someone deeply loved. Her loss has left an unimaginable void in the lives of those who knew and loved her.”
She was a mother to a son, Shaun, and daughter, Karma.
“Karma is going to need some help getting through this life changing trauma,” Chuck Westbrook wrote on Facebook. “I will be her protector for as long as I walk this Earth.”
He said he and Karma cried together and prayed and ultimately agreed they knew Nicki was “having issues that she could not find help for so He helped her to find peace and understanding in his arms.”
“We know she’s not being tortured anymore by the demons or evil that’s walking this Earth,” he said.
He said now he wants to dedicate his life to helping others with mental illness.
A funeral will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Moore. The date and time have not been set.
