A South Carolina correctional officer has been charged with misconduct in office, the state Department of Corrections announced Wednesday.

Anil Joseph, 55, of Gaffney, was working at Livesay Correctional Institution in Spartanburg authorities say he used a state-issued credit card to fuel his personal vehicle and vehicles owned by his son from January 2025 through July 15, 2026, according to a news release.
It resulted in 104 unauthorized fuel purchases totaling $4,682.75, according to an affidavit released by the SCDC Inspector General.

He was fired, officials said.
Joseph was charged with financial card theft, obtaining goods under false pretenses and misconduct in office, according to a news release.
