A Rock Hill teen who plotted to “hit a lick” and rob a man of a gun is now charged with murder after an 18-year-old friend who was a co-conspirator died in a gunfight with the robbery victim, according to police.

Ka’Darius Rishon Turner-Hansley, 19, didn’t fire the shots Thursday night that killed Jeremiah Jacorey Tolliver, 18, but was involved in the scheme so now is charged with the killing, according to police statements in court and arrest warrants obtained exclusively by The Herald.
Rock Hill Municipal Court Judge Ray Long denied bail to Turner-Hansley Saturday morning hours after he was arrested.
Tolliver was shot outside apartments on Springdale Road in Rock Hill before 11 p.m. after he and Turner-Hansley schemed to rob a 20-year-old of a gun, Rock Hill Police Detective Tayler Englert said in court Saturday. Tolliver and the victim exchanged gunfire, Englert said.
The 20-year-old robbery victim, who was wounded in the gunfight, shot Tolliver in self-defense, Englert said.
Suspect didn’t kill friend, but police charged him with murder
Turner-Hansley fled after the shooting but police found him Friday and charged him with the killing under what is called the felony murder law. That means if someone is killed during a felony crime, the suspect can be charged with the death, Englert told Judge Long.
“Due to all of his actions, Turner-Hansley, 19, of Rock Hill, was charged with the murder of his friend, Jeremiah Tolliver…” Englert said, “based on Turner-Hansley participating in a criminal act that resulted in the death of his accomplice.”
Turner-Hansley also is charged with conspiracy, armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Family members of the 18-year-old who died were in court Saturday but did not speak to the judge.

Turner-Hansley did not speak about the crime in court. He only told Judge Long he worked at a warehouse and lived in Rock Hill with his mother.
The Herald was the only media organization there for Turner-Hansley’s first court appearance.
What happens now?
Englert, the detective, said in court Turner-Hansley fled the scene along with another “co-conspirator” after the shooting Thursday night. That person was not identified.
Rock Hill police spokesman Lt. Michael Chavis said later Saturday the investigation remains ongoing.
Long qualified Turner-Hansley for a public defender lawyer to represent him on the murder and other charges in York County criminal court.
Turner-Hansley will be sent to the York County jail. No trial date has been set.
Third case in 2 years for murder charge without firing shots
This is the third case in the past two years in which Rock Hill police charged someone who did not fire fatal shots with murder.
In February, police arrested a 16-year-old girl after her accomplice was killed in a botched robbery of a gun from her boyfriend. The male accomplice, 18, died when the boyfriend, a 15-year-old boy, shot him. The girl initially faced murder but later pleaded guilty in Family Court to attempted robbery and kidnapping. Prosecutors dropped the murder as part of a plea deal. The shooter was not charged with the killing. The girl is in a South Carolina juvenile jail and could be there up until age 22.
Before that, in 2024, Rock Hill police charged a woman with murder after she brought her girlfriend a gun to confront a co-worker before the co-worker killed the girlfriend in what police and prosecutors said was a self-defense shooting. In that case where the woman also blocked in the co-worker with her car, she was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to a lesser charge of first-degree assault and battery in a case the sentencing judge called a “planned assassination.”
