Fire at major Midlands manufacturing facility, South Carolina officials say

Emergency crews responded to a major manufacturing facility in South Carolina Sunday, according to the Fairfield County Fire Service.

Firefighters responded to a fire alarm and chemical smell inside the MLILY USA mattress factory in Winnsboro, officials said in a Facebook post.

The incident is contained to the building and there is no threat to the public, according to the post. Further information about the incident was not available.

No injuries were reported.

Members of the Columbia Fire Department, including the hazmat team, also responded to the plant on U.S. 321 in the Winnsboro area of Fairfield County. The Winnsboro Department of Public Safety, EMS and the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.

There was no word about where in the plant the incident originated, a cause, or the extent of damage to the facility. Officials did not say if foul play was suspected, but reported an investigation was ongoing.

The 650,000 square-foot factory opened in 2019.

MLILY manufactures mattresses, pillows and more sleep related products, according to the company’s website.
