One person killed when SUV crashes into turning vehicle, South Carolina cops say

A South Carolina man was recently killed when the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a crash, according to the Oconee County Coroner’s Office.

Donnie Ray Woody, a 42-year-old Walhalla resident, died Aug. 13 in what Coroner Karl Addis called an accident.

The two-vehicle collision happened at about 5:40 p.m. in Oconee County, said Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Woody was driving a 2024 Triumph south on S.C. 11, according to Glover. Near the intersection with Castlebrook Drive the motorcycle began to turn left when it was hit by a 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV that was also driving south on S.C. 11, Glover said.

Woody died at the scene from blunt force trauma injuries, according to Addis.

Glover said that the Chevy driver was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.

There was no word if Woody was wearing a helmet or if the Chevy driver was wearing a seatbelt, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.

Through Aug. 9, at least 515 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. A minimum of 914 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.

At least eight people have died in Oconee County crashes this year, and 17 people died in wrecks there in 2025, according to DPS data.
