The FBI seized disgraced former California Congressman Eric Swalwell’s cell phone and laptop last weekend at San Francisco International Airport and searched his home in Washington, D.C., according to multiple media reports and a federal search warrant.

FBI agents seized Swalwell’s iPhone and a MacBook laptop on Saturday at 8:25 p.m., according to court records. The case, which is under seal, cites a federal civil rights statute pertaining to deprivation of civil rights, including aggravated sexual abuse and assault.
The Daily Mail reported that the agents executed the warrant at SFO as Swalwell returned to California from D.C. Agents searched his D.C. home on Sunday, according to CNN, which reported that the seizure and search were related to an ongoing federal sexual assault investigation.
Until this year, Swalwell was a rising Democratic Party star representing the East Bay in Congress, often appearing on cable news as a Trump White House antagonist. He was the frontrunner in the California governor’s race until five women accused him of sexual misconduct in April.
One of the women was a former staffer who said he raped her twice when she worked for him. Several of the women told CNN that the FBI had approached them in recent months.
One of the women, Lonna Drewes, said Swalwell drugged and raped her in 2018 after she said Swalwell offered to help her further her career in the software industry. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department is investigating her claims.

Arick Fudali, Drewes’ attorney, said in an email the FBI had not reached out to his client.
“Nevertheless, we are encouraged by this latest development and Ms. Drewes will continue to fight for justice and remains willing to cooperate with any and all law enforcement agencies investigating Mr. Swalwell,” he wrote.
Swalwell dropped out of the governor’s race and resigned from office as prosecutors in New York and Los Angeles began probing for potential criminal charges. State officials are also investigating whether he misused campaign funds to pay his attorney, Sara Azari.
Neither Swalwell nor Azari responded to requests for comment. The FBI did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
