A restaurant chain known for burgers and milkshakes is planning a return to a busy area of Lexington after closing a year ago.

Wayback Burgers, which has locations across the U.S., plans to reopen its restaurant at 5230 Sunset Blvd. in Lexington. The company said on social media the Lexington unit is “reopening soon” on Sunset Boulevard.
“Hey, Lexington! Something delicious is coming soon,” Wayback Burgers posted on Facebook. “Fresh, made-to-order burgers. Hand-dipped shakes. The classics you love — done the Wayback way. We’ll see you soon.”
There also are posters in the windows of the restaurant at 5230 Sunset Blvd. that tout that Wayback will soon reopen “under new management.” A formal reopening date has not been publicly announced.
The Wayback Burgers location in Lexington closed its doors in summer 2025. Notes on the door at the time of that closure cited “multiple business and personal” reasons for the shuttering.

But now the business is set to return to what is a busy shopping center along a key retail corridor in Lexington. The shopping center is anchored by a Lowes Foods grocery store and also includes a Hollywood Feed pet supply store, a Sukiya Japanese steakhouse, Wing Place restaurant and host of other businesses.
More than 45,000 cars per day travel down that section of Sunset Boulevard in Lexington, per state Department of Transportation data, making it one of the busiest non-interstate roads in the Midlands.
Wayback Burgers is known for its deep menu of fresh grilled hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, salads, a lengthy roster of milkshakes and more. There are more than 180 Wayback Burgers locations across the U.S., per the company’s franchising website.
