‘Take flight’: New restaurant near busy downtown Lexington opens its doors

A new restaurant in a well-known location in Lexington has opened its doors.

Señor Bird’s Tacos + Tequila Bar officially opened on Monday, May 18, according to posts from the business on social media. The new Mexican restaurant is at 942 E. Main St., not far from the heart of downtown Lexington. It’s in the building that formerly was home to Fatz Cafe for many years. Fatz closed all of its locations, including Lexington, in 2023.

According to signage on the door at Señor Bird’s and listings on its social media, it’s open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

“Tacos. Tequila. Take flight,” Señor Bird’s Lexington profile on Facebook reads, adding that it is a family owned business that serves “Authentic Mexican + Tex-Mex” food and “handcrafted margaritas.”

There are Señor Bird’s Mexican restaurants in several locations, according to social media, including on Broad Street in Augusta and on Washington Street in Athens, Georgia.

The new Lexington restaurant is in a high-traffic corridor with a number of nearby businesses. The main branch of the Lexington County Library also is just to the east. Nearly 29,000 cars per day travel down that stretch of East Main Street, per SC Department of Transportation data.
