New details from SLED emerge into shooting death of Columbia police officer

New details from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division reveal a sequence of events leading to the shooting death of Columbia Police Officer Chris DeLong.

DeLong was shot and killed Saturday in a parking lot at Southeast Park by a suspect involved in a domestic disturbance — Adam Dowdy. David Dymock, DeLong’s partner, was shot and injured, but has since been released from the hospital, according to the Columbia Police Department.

An initial report by SLED shows that Dowdy was armed when he was approached by DeLong and Dymock Saturday around 10:41 a.m.

As Dowdy fled from the officers he began shooting at DeLong and Dymock. The officers returned fire, according to SLED.
