Woman cashed in lottery tickets where she worked before her arrest, SC copy say

A woman was recently arrested after she cashed in winning lottery tickets at the convenience store where she worked at the time, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. The scratch-off tickets had been stolen, SLED said Tuesday in a news release.

On Sept. 4, Michelle Paysour Quinn, a 54-year-old Gaffney resident, was charged with intent to defraud, counterfeit game tickets, according to the release.

Quinn stole lottery tickets from the Corner Stop at 3508 Union Highway in Gaffney, an arrest warrant shows. On June 23, Quinn tried to redeem the scratch-off tickets at the same gas station/convenience store, an arrest warrant said.

Quinn was identified by store staff and recorded by surveillance cameras, according to the arrest warrant.

Information about the number of tickets and the amount of prize money that was received for the stolen games was not available.

Quinn was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center, SLED said.

On the same day she was arrested, a $10,000 bond was posted, Cherokee County court records show. Quinn is scheduled to return to court Nov. 2, according to judicial records.

Quinn will be prosecuted by the 7th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

If convicted on the felony charge, Quinn faces a maximum punishment of 5 years in prison and a $50,000 fine, according to South Carolina law.

The SLED investigation was requested by South Carolina Education Lottery.

When she was arrested, Quinn was already out on bond from a July 4 arrest on a breach of trust with fraudulent intent (value $2,000 or less) charge, court records show. Quinn posted a $1,087 bond and that charge is pending.

In 2025, Quinn pleaded guilty to a similar breach charge, according to court records.
