Annie Andrews, Democratic nominee

Charleston pediatrician Annie Andrews will push to allow only Congress, not presidential administrations, to begin wars, according to a policy plan released by her campaign. She has described the war in Iran as illegal.

Andrews also told supporters ending the war in Iran would help reduce gas prices. Since the U.S. struck Iran in February, gas prices have climbed and fluctuated across the country, including in South Carolina.

“Number two, we can find our way out of this illegal, unconstitutional billion dollar a day war overseas,” Andrews said on Sept. 2.

Darline Graham, Republican nominee

In forums and debates, U.S. Sen. Darline Graham has repeatedly said she trusts President Donald Trump’s handling of the war in Iran. She has also said Iran should not be able to have a nuclear weapon.

“I fully trust President Trump when it comes to the war in Iran,” Graham said during an Aug. 18 debate. “47 years this has been going on. Iran is the weakest they have been in 47 years. The one thing that concerns me is we cannot let them get a nuclear weapon. So I trust President Trump in everything he’s doing. I think he’s got this, and I trust him on it.”

Third-party candidates

Third-party candidates in the race include Kasie Whitener, the Libertarian candidate, and Mark Hackett of the Constitution Party. Whitener said in a blog post she opposed the use of force in Iran.
