A Gaffney man with power of attorney was charged with stealing thousands from a nursing home resident.

Brian Leslie Liles, 49, was charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult and breach of trust with fraudulent intent, according to a news release from the South Carolina attorney general’s office.
An investigation found Liles allegedly made “unlawful, unauthorized, or improper” use of funds belonging to a nursing home resident for his own advantage, a news release said. Liles had power of attorney with vulnerable adult he allegedly stole from, the release said.

Official allege Liles stole more than $10,000 through electronic transfers and checks from the victim’s bank account between July 14 and Nov. 5, 2025, the attorney general’s office said.
The case will be prosecuted by the attorney general’s office. Liles was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center on Thursday.
